Pete Harman met Colonel Sanders in Chicago. Sanders was confidently invited to Utah to showcase his exceptional chicken at Harman’s restaurant. This powerful partnership resulted in the groundbreaking establishment of the world’s first KFC franchise at this iconic location.

The original building was demolished in 2004 and rebuilt. However, the location still proudly claims to be the world’s first KFC, a title it holds with great pride. Following a meticulous reconstruction process aimed to preserve the essence of the iconic brand, the restaurant reopened its doors to the public in the same year, 2004. It welcomed both loyal fans and curious newcomers alike. Visitors flock to this historic site not only to enjoy the signature fried chicken that made KFC famous but also to immerse themselves in the rich history embodied here. It continues to serve as a symbol of culinary innovation and nostalgia in the fast-food industry.

So while it started as Harman’s Café in 1951, it became the first KFC franchise in 1952. This makes it both the first KFC in Utah and the first KFC franchise anywhere in the world.
