About To The Place

We are Jerri and Matt, and we like standing where the story happened.

Most of what ends up on this site started with one of us saying, “wait, where did that actually happen?” From there it usually turns into saved maps, old articles, cemetery records, street views, and eventually a road trip.

We are based in Oklahoma now, but we have lived in West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, and Florida. The site follows the same kind of path we do: true crime locations, filming spots, abandoned places, gravesites, roadside weirdness, and the history that feels different once you can see the place for yourself.

Jerri and Matt on location

Matt is usually the one deep in the research, chasing addresses and context until the pieces start to line up. Jerri brings the eye for the place itself: the angles, the quiet details, the odd little things you only notice when you are actually there.

We built To The Place because we wanted more than a list of names or a quick headline. We wanted a way to connect the story, the location, the photos, and the map so other curious people could follow the trail without starting from scratch.

Some stops are fun. Some are strange. Some are heavier than expected. We try to treat those heavier stories with care, especially true crime stories where the victims should never get swallowed up by the name everyone already knows.

Veronicar, the Dodge Challenger used for To The Place road trips

Veronicar gets us there.

Our 2018 Dodge Challenger has become the unofficial third member of To The Place. She has hauled us down back roads, across state lines, into cemetery drives, past roadside attractions, and toward plenty of “just one more stop” moments.

Why To The Place? The name is a nod to Jerri’s West Virginia roots and the line “to the place I belong” from John Denver’s Country Roads. It fits the whole idea: follow the story until you can stand in the place connected to it.

We still have a long list ahead of us, including the goal of visiting all 50 states. Thanks for following along while we keep chasing the next place.
