42 Oakley Street in Chelsea is one of the London addresses most closely tied to Bob Marley. After the 1976 attempt on his life in Jamaica, Marley came to London and lived here with The Wailers in 1977. It was during this period that they finished work on Exodus, the album that gave the world songs like “Jamming,” “Waiting in Vain,” “Three Little Birds,” and “One Love.” The house itself is a four-storey terraced building, easy to pass without realizing what happened behind its doors. But for a short time, this was where Marley lived, worked, recovered, and helped shape one of the most important albums in reggae history. English Heritage later marked the house with a blue plaque.
