Visiting Selena’s Grave, Memorial, and Legacy Sites in Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi is one of those places where Selena’s story still feels close. It is not just one memorial or one stop. It is spread through the city in a way that makes you realize how much she still means to people.

On our trip, we visited several locations tied to her life and legacy, from the bayfront memorial at Mirador de la Flor, to her star on the South Texas Music Walk of Fame, to the places connected to the final chapter of her story. We also stopped at her grave at Seaside Memorial Park, where the sunset hit the image of her face in a way that made the whole visit feel even more personal.

What stood out most was how present she still feels in Corpus Christi. Fans still come. Flowers are still left. People still take pictures, pause, and remember. Selena may be gone, but in Corpus Christi, her legacy is not treated like old history. It is still alive.

Selena’s Star on the Texas Music Walk of Fame

Selena’s star on the South Texas Music Walk of Fame is one of those small stops in Corpus Christi that still feels personal. It sits downtown near Water Street, honoring her place in South Texas music and the way her voice still belongs to the city. It is not a huge memorial, but it does not need to be. Fans stop, take pictures, and pause for a minute because Selena’s story is still tied to Corpus Christi in a way that feels real. Her star is simple, but it carries a lot of weight.

Selena’s Grave

Selena is buried at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi, and I would not call her grave simple. It has a presence to it. When I was there, the sun was setting, and the light was hitting the image of her face on the grave. That made the whole moment feel even more personal. Fans still come here with flowers, notes, and little tributes, but standing there at sunset, it felt less like a famous stop on a map and more like a quiet place where people still come to remember someone they never stopped loving.

Selena Memorial

The memorial was dedicated in 1997 and sits along the bayfront, where Selena is shown leaning against a pillar and looking out toward Corpus Christi Bay. The life-size bronze statue was created by local sculptor H. W. “Buddy” Tatum.

The statue shows Selena in a leather jacket with a microphone in her hand, which fits her perfectly. It is not a huge, overdone monument. It feels more personal than that. Fans come here to take photos, leave flowers, and spend a quiet minute remembering someone who still feels deeply connected to the city.

Murder Location

Selena came here on March 31, 1995, to meet Yolanda Saldívar and recover missing financial records. The meeting was inside this room. This is where the argument turned violent, and Saldívar shot her.

Selena somehow made it out of the room and ran toward the motel office for help. It was not far, and that makes it even harder to stand here and picture. She reached the lobby, identified Saldívar, and then collapsed.

Selena’s Boutique

elena’s Corpus Christi boutique, Selena Etc., was more than just a store. It was part of the future she was building. The boutique and salon opened in Corpus Christi in 1994, and it showed another side of Selena beyond the stage. She loved fashion, design, and creating her own look, and this was her way of turning that into something real. The Corpus Christi location was on Everhart Road, and she later opened another boutique in San Antonio.

What makes this location hit differently is that it also connects to the darker part of her story. Yolanda Saldívar managed the boutiques and fan club before Selena’s family accused her of mishandling money. That dispute is what led Selena to meet her at the Days Inn in Corpus Christi on March 31, 1995.

The boutique closed in 2009, but it still matters when you are following Selena’s story through Corpus Christi. It was not just a business address. It was a piece of her dream. A place tied to her creativity, her ambition, and the life she was still building when everything was taken from her.
