Married since 1998 (yep, we met online before it was cool), we’re a couple driven by curiosity, wanderlust, and a love for the weird, forgotten, and fascinating. We’ve lived in West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, and Florida—but now we proudly call Oklahoma home.
Who We Are
Matt is the history buff, always on the hunt for hard-to-find locations tied to true crime, disasters, and pop culture. He’s fascinated by the challenge of uncovering forgotten places and piecing together lost stories.
Jerri is the creative eye behind the lens. Her passion lies in photography—especially abandoned sites and offbeat roadside oddities. She finds unique ways to capture the feel of each place we visit.
Veronicar, our much-loved 2018 Dodge Challenger, is our trusted ride and unofficial third team member. Without her, many of our road trips wouldn’t be possible. She gets us where we need to go—in style and in serious comfort.

Together, we created To The Place to document our adventures and help others explore these places, too—without having to dig through endless search results. The name itself comes from Jerri’s West Virginia roots and the beloved lyric “to the place I belong” from the unofficial anthem of West Virginia, John Denver’s Country Roads. It’s a nod to the places that feel like home, even when they’re far from it.
Our Favorite Finds
- Matt’s Favorite: The Joplin apartment hideout of Bonnie and Clyde, where they narrowly escaped a shootout, or anything to do with Bonnie and Clyde.
- Jerri’s Favorite: Anything abandoned or wonderfully weird—especially those strange roadside attractions that make you pull over just to say, “What is that?!
Beyond the Map
When we’re not traveling, we’re at home cooking out, building Halloween and Christmas decorations, or out shopping for the next quirky thing to feature.
Some locations hit deeper than expected. Matt had an emotional moment visiting Peggy the Doll in Las Vegas. Jerri often feels a quiet intensity in certain cemeteries—some places just speak louder than others.
Although we don’t have strong personal ties to most sites we visit, Matt does have a distant family connection to one of Ted Bundy’s victims in the Chi Omega murders. That connection is one of many reasons we try to center the stories of the victims whenever we cover true crime.
What People Think
Friends sometimes think we’re a little strange—and honestly, we get it. But we also believe everyone has something that lights them up. Ours just happens to involve cemeteries, GPS pins, and historical rabbit holes.
The Journey Ahead
We’ve been fortunate to travel to many corners of the world, and there’s still so much left to see. One of our biggest goals is to visit all 50 U.S. states, uncovering stories, history, and hidden places in each one along the way. Whether it’s in Oklahoma, across the U.S., or overseas—we’ll keep going to the place, one story at a time.
Thanks for traveling with us.
