On November 8, 1974, an 18-year-old Carol DaRonch was at a shopping mall in Murray, Utah when she was approached by Ted Bundy. Bundy was posing as a police officer during this encounter. The incident involved Bundy attempting to kidnap and assault DaRonch, but she managed to escape.

Location where Bundy and DaRonch exited the mall

At approximately 7:00 p.m., Bundy escorted DaRonch to a purported “police substation” situated within a laundromat north of the mall. In reality, legitimate police substations are never housed in such establishments, thereby exposing the fabrication. This ruse was deliberately orchestrated to isolate DaRonch and facilitate Bundy’s intended assault and abduction.

The Attack
The deception began to unravel when DaRonch noticed that Bundy was not driving toward any legitimate police station. When she pointed out that he was driving on a road that did not lead to the police station, Bundy immediately pulled onto the shoulder where he started his attack on her.
