Gacy met McCoy at a bus terminal in Chicago while McCoy was returning home after a Christmas celebration with friends in Michigan. His body was discovered along with many other victims of Gacy in December 1978 after the police executed a search warrant for Gacy’s house as part of the investigation into the whereabouts of Robert Piest, Gacy’s last victim.
For nearly seven years, McCoy’s fate remained unknown until his body was conclusively identified in 1986. His remains were returned to his family in Iowa, where he was finally laid to rest.
