Married with Children is a popular American sitcom that aired from 1987 to 1997. It was created by Michael G. Moye and Ron Leavitt and followed the dysfunctional Bundy family living in Chicago. The main characters included Al Bundy (played by Ed O’Neill), a misanthropic shoe salesman; Peggy Bundy (played by Katey Sagal), Al’s lazy and often clueless wife; and their two children, Kelly Bundy (played by Christina Applegate), a promiscuous and not-so-bright daughter, and Bud Bundy (played by David Faustino), an awkward and perpetually unlucky son.
The show revolved around the comedic misadventures of the Bundy family as they navigated their often-contentious relationships with each other and the world around them. Al’s dissatisfaction with his job and marriage, Peggy’s disinterest in housework and parenting, Kelly’s promiscuity, and Bud’s perpetual attempts to fit in were recurring themes throughout the series.
“Married with Children” gained a reputation for its dark humor, irreverence, and portrayal of a dysfunctional family, which was quite different from the typical sitcoms of its time. The show had a successful run, lasting for 11 seasons and becoming one of the longest-running live-action sitcoms in American television history.
